Steel
is still one of the most important materials, because of the varieties available and the consequent diversity of its use and applications. Steel can be shaped, supplemented, replaced, and welded: just some of its significant advantages. In order to safeguard its durability and effectiveness, however, steel must be protected from corrosion.

Galvanising
was long considered as an alternative to corrosion protection with paint. Today the Duplex process (zinc and paint) shows that galvanising represents an alternative corrosion protection primer, which can be usefully supplemented with additional functional coatings (e.g. in aggressive atmospheres), for embellishment (providing colour), camouflage, signalling and marking.
