Monopol Colors: pioneers of CO2 neutrality with SME Clima
As a founding member of SME Clima since 2016, we, Monopol Colors, have helped to establish the vision of a CO2-neutral future from the very beginning. Our journey started shortly before Switzerland ratified the Paris Climate Agreement. With the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 % by 2030 compared to 1990 level. The aim is to achieve a climate-neutral Switzerland by 2050. Accordingly, we have been committed to environmental protection from an early stage and started with a partial CO2 offsetting since 2016, followed by a full CO2 offsetting in 2024.
CO2 balance as a guidepost
Drawing up a carbon footprint that takes into account our electricity consumption, heating and mobility, was a decisive step in actively putting our environmental awareness into practice. With the help of SME Clima, we were able to strategically reduce our emissions on the basis of clear criteria. This process did not only help us to reduce our environmental impact, but also to increase our efficiency.
Together for CO2 compensation
Since 2016, we have pursued a partial CO2 offsetting strategy to offset our remaining emissions through projects that reduce greenhouse gases. These measures put us on the path to a stronger commitment to climate protection. Since the beginning of 2024, we have been awarded the full CO2 offsetting label by SME Clima, which makes our commitment to climate protection even more visible. One highlight of our offsetting efforts is our involvement in the “Treinta y Tres” reforestation project in Uruguay, which not only stores CO2, but also helps to preserve biodiversity and to regenerate the landscape. A full transparency and the opportunity to experience the project for ourselves through study trips encourage us in our commitment and enable us to see the direct impact of our efforts.
